Role: Project Director (Slattery)

Provision of full cost management services for the adaptive reuse of the Sandstones Precinct into a 192-key luxury hotel and mixed-use destination.

The project comprises the transformation of state significant heritage sandstone buildings, including the former Department of Education and Lands Buildings, into a premium international hotel integrated with retail, food and beverage, event and commercial uses.

The redevelopment involved substantial structural and services interventions, including façade retention, major structural strengthening, excavation of basement levels and the addition of new upper levels, alongside integration of contemporary hotel and commercial uses within the existing heritage fabric.

Works required complex engineering solutions to preserve the heritage structures, including temporary structural support, underpinning and integration of new structural systems independent of the existing fabric.

The completed development delivers a range of activated spaces including restaurants, bars, event venues and workplace environments, creating a publicly accessible destination and a significant commercial, cultural and hospitality hub within the Sydney CBD.

Works were delivered within a highly constrained urban environment, requiring careful coordination of heritage preservation, staging, logistics and construction sequencing.
