Provision of full cost planning and cost management services for the delivery of a new science, education and research facility within Taronga Zoo.
The project comprises a purpose built institute supporting conservation science, research and education, forming part of Taronga Zoo’s Centenary Revitalisation Plan and establishing a platform for national and global leadership in wildlife conservation and learning.
The development includes a new three-storey facility integrating specialist laboratories, digital teaching environments and immersive learning spaces, designed to accommodate students, researchers and the public within a highly collaborative environment.
The building is organised around a central atrium which connects the primary functional components of the institute, bringing together science, learning and visitor engagement and enabling interaction between scientists, educators, animal carers and visitors.
Key components include immersive habitat based classrooms themed around rainforest, arid and woodland environments, multidisciplinary research laboratories and teaching spaces, together with integrated animal enclosures and external learning environments supporting hands on educational experiences.
The project required delivery within a live zoo environment, involving careful staging, logistics planning and coordination to manage interface with visitors, staff and animal habitats, together with integration of specialist services and environmental controls associated with research and animal care facilities.
The development achieves a 6 Star Green Star rating, reflecting strong sustainability outcomes aligned with the project’s conservation objectives.
